Trip to Tanjavore

Its been almost an year since we went on this trip but i really wanted to pen down this to co-relate the similarities between the civilization...(ofcourse i realized it after out trip to Egypt and Istanbul)...

We started off pretty late from pondicherry on a sunny sunday afternoon..around 2.30...If not for the a/c in the car and an hubby cum driver who does not feel sleepy after a good lunch, the trip wouldnt have been possible ;-)

Our target was to go reach Tanjavore before it gets dark, which really looked an impossible target to me (as usual). We reached Gangaikonda cholapuram. There was this beautiful temple surprisingly kept very neat and very well maintined. It was already sunset time and the temple looked astonishing in the setting sun and dimming light. This temple borrows the whole floor plan and the intrique details from the Brihadeeswara Temple at Tanjavur. This to be honest, looked like the miniature version of the Tanjavur temple.

There is nice lawn around the temple and nice place to sit. Calm and peaceful unlike the actual Brihadeeswara temple.

Then we headed towards Kumbakonam..Man the road was really really bad. I was just praying that we should not have a flat tyre..Forget about the road but the whole of the Tanjaore district is so fertile and so green that it makes you feel really really good. I just didnt want to goto the temple..Wanted to stay there. Me and my husband made our plans that next time we should come all prepared for tenting there..

To be continued....

We visited tha Tanjavore temple, spent the afternoon there one Sunday. We were the only Europeans-the only nonTamils, in fact-there. It was wonderful. A glorious complex, and we just felt completey welcome.
